HAY FEVER TREATMENT

Hay fever is an allergy to pollen that affects around a quarter of people in the UK.
The hay fever season can last from March to October and some unlucky people only get a break from symptoms in winter. A survey undertaken by the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit of more than 2,000 people with hay fever, found that lifestyle factors, such as stress and exercise, can have a major impact on hay fever. Although there are many prescribed and over-the-counter treatments for hay fever, many people prefer to manage their symptoms without medications.

Typical symptoms include sneezing, nasal itching, nasal blockage, and watery nasal discharge.(Lund 1994).

Other symptoms include eye symptoms (e.g. red eyes, itchy eyes, tearing), coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.

FIVE TOP TIPS FOR REDUCING THE SYMPTOMS OF HAY FEVER.
  1. Exercise

  2. Eat well

  3. Get a good night’s sleep

  4. Cut down on alcohol

  5. Reduce your stress

Q. CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP WITH HAY FEVER?

In general, acupuncture is believed to stimulate the nervous system and cause the release of neurochemical messenger molecules. The resulting biochemical changes influence the body’s homeostatic mechanisms, thus promoting physical and emotional well-being. Stimulation of certain acupuncture points has been shown to affect areas of the brain that are known to reduce sensitivity to pain and stress (Hui 2010).

QUITE SIMPLY THIS MEANS ACUPUNCTURE CAN:
  • Reduce inflammation.

  • Enhance the immune system.

  • Stimulate the release of endorphins.

  • All of which can help you manage the symptoms of hay fever.
